In the event you are notified of a student who needs accommodations related to their ability to participate in your course, you can add information about the student’s accommodations in Examity for the proctor.
How to Add Special Accommodations in Examity
If students require test accommodations, you can make sure proctor support is aware ahead of time by entering the information in Examity.
- Access the Examity Dashboard from within the course and select Students (see Figure 1.1).
- Select Search (see Figure 1.2)
- Search for the student using the last name or email address fields. Once the student record appears, click the pencil icon beside their name (see Figure 1.3).
- In Special accommodations, select Yes. In the Comments field, enter the applicable accommodation information (see Figure 1.4).
- Select Update.
Extend Time for Students in Canvas
If the accommodation includes extending time to a student, you will add that information in the Canvas quiz by using the ‘moderate this quiz’ feature. Refer to the instructions in Canvas’s “Once I publish a timed quiz, how can I give my students extra time?” documentation.
Additional Instructions for Extended Time for Automated Proctoring
If your exam is using automated proctoring, not live, you must also access the Exam Shell via the Examity Dashboard and manually change the “Duration of the Exam (hrs)” to include the extended time. Students without the extended time will still have their exam end after the time expires as listed in the Canvas quiz settings.
For example, if the original time limit is 60 mins, and the accommodation request is for time-and-a-half, you would:
- keep the Canvas quiz Time Limit setting at 60 mins,
- manually change the Examity Exam Shell’s duration to 90 mins, and
- use Canvas’s “moderate this quiz” feature to extend the requested student’s time limit for 30 extra minutes.
